According to a report by FootballTransfers on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Arsenal have renewed their interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Alex Baena as manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta consider strengthening the club's attacking options ahead of 2027.
The Gunners are reportedly serious about signing the Spain international, whose impressive performances since the World Cup have attracted interest from several major European clubs.
Baena joined Atletico Madrid from Villarreal for €42 million last year after establishing himself as one of LaLiga's most creative attacking players. However, the 25-year-old initially struggled to reproduce his best performances following his arrival in the Spanish capital.
Although he is often deployed on the left wing, Baena is not a traditional winger. His main strengths are his creativity, ability to control attacking movements and vision when linking up with teammates.
His performances at the World Cup appear to have revitalised his career. Baena played an important role in Spain's successful campaign, replacing the injured Nico Williams as La Roja went on to win the tournament.
He has carried that form into the new season, becoming one of Atletico's most influential players. Manager Diego Simeone has also praised his improvement, particularly his growing confidence and understanding of the game.
"Baena sees the game differently than others; he's stronger and more confident since the World Cup. He's the player we went out to sign. We'll have to manage his playing time so that his unique qualities can shine through," Simeone said.
Arsenal's admiration for Baena dates back to his Villarreal days, when the north London club previously monitored his progress before his move to Atletico.
Arteta is reportedly interested in adding another left-sided attacking option after Arsenal failed to secure Vinicius Junior during the summer transfer window. Baena's versatility and creative qualities could make him an attractive addition.
However, Atletico are expected to demand at least €80 million to consider selling him next summer. Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Manchester City and Newcastle are also monitoring his situation.
Although a January transfer appears unlikely, Arsenal's continued interest suggests Baena could become one of Arteta's major targets ahead of the 2027 campaign.
