Chelsea midfielder Morgan Rogers has revealed that teammate Joao Pedro helped inspire the clever finish he produced during Saturday's 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicle on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the England international explained that Pedro often encourages him to practise chipped finishes during training. That advice influenced his decision to lift the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens when opening the scoring against United.
Rogers delivered one of the match's most memorable moments shortly after the break, giving Chelsea the lead as they responded to consecutive defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
The £117 million summer signing received a pass from Romeo Lavia before driving towards United's defence. Showing excellent control and confidence, he moved past several opponents before calmly chipping the ball over Lammens and finding the back of the net.
His finish highlighted the technical ability and composure that have characterised his promising start at Stamford Bridge. It also gave Chelsea an important breakthrough in a match they needed to win to restore confidence following their recent setbacks.
Speaking to Stadium Astro after the final whistle, Rogers was interviewed by former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo. The former forward praised his calmness and judgement in front of goal before asking about the inspiration behind the finish.
Rogers explained that Pedro had played a part in encouraging him to attempt that type of effort. According to the midfielder, the Brazilian regularly practises chipped finishes during training sessions, giving him the confidence to try something similar in a competitive match.
Since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa, Rogers has quickly become an important attacking option under manager Xabi Alonso. He has already scored six goals, demonstrating his ability to influence matches through his movement, creativity and contributions in the final third.
His performance against Manchester United further strengthened the positive impression he has made since arriving at the club. Scoring the opening goal was particularly significant as Chelsea sought to end their disappointing run and return to winning ways.
Rogers' style has also attracted comparisons with former Chelsea star Eden Hazard. His ability to take on defenders, create scoring opportunities and contribute goals has made him an exciting addition to Alonso's squad, although he still has considerable time to develop.
Flo, meanwhile, enjoyed a successful spell at Chelsea, making 163 appearances and recording 50 goals and 10 assists. Rogers has yet to reach those career figures, but his early performances suggest he could become an influential player at Stamford Bridge.
His latest goal not only helped Chelsea secure three important points but also demonstrated how advice and encouragement from teammates can influence moments of individual quality on the pitch.
