According to a report by Metro on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Chelsea defender Maxence Lacroix is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious hamstring injury that could keep him out for the rest of the year.
The setback represents another major concern for Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso as he prepares his team for their upcoming Premier League clash with Manchester United.
Lacroix sustained the injury during Chelsea's Carabao Cup meeting with Liverpool on Wednesday. The French international was forced off shortly before half-time after pulling up while attempting to track Cody Gakpo's run. He immediately indicated to the Chelsea bench that he was unable to continue.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Alonso confirmed that the defender would miss Chelsea's remaining fixtures before the November international break.
"Max picked up an injury and we expect he is not going to be ready before the international break. He will be a few weeks out," the Spanish manager said.
However, further reports suggest that medical examinations have revealed a grade three hamstring tear, an injury that could require between eight and 12 weeks of recovery.
There are reportedly growing concerns at Stamford Bridge that the 26 year old may not return until after Christmas, potentially extending his absence into the New Year.
If that recovery timeline is confirmed, Lacroix could miss around 10 matches, including crucial December fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester City.
His absence would be a significant blow to Alonso, considering the important role he has played since joining Chelsea from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.
The defender has featured for the full 90 minutes in seven of Chelsea's first eight Premier League matches and has accumulated more playing time than any other member of the squad.
Chelsea are also managing other injury problems. Joao Pedro is expected to miss several weeks after suffering a thigh injury, while captain Reece James is continuing his recovery from minor knee surgery.
With several players unavailable, Alonso faces difficult selection decisions as Chelsea prepare for the Manchester United encounter.
