Yan Diomande’s Impressive Dribbling Statistics Put Vinicius Junior Under Pressure at Real Madrid

Real Madrid summer recruit Yan Diomande is attracting growing attention after producing impressive dribbling statistics that compare favourably with those of Vinícius Júnior under manager José Mourinho. The Ivorian winger’s performances have raised questions about the competition for attacking positions as he continues to establish himself at the Spanish club.

According to Madrid Universal, Diomande has completed 47 successful dribbles in 565 minutes of action this season, surpassing Vinícius, who has registered 38 in 800 minutes. The figures highlight the younger winger’s growing influence and suggest he has been particularly effective when attempting to take on opposition defenders.

The difference is also evident in their success rates. Diomande has reportedly completed 66 per cent of his attempted dribbles, compared with 42 per cent for his Brazilian teammate. This indicates that the summer signing has been more efficient in individual battles, regularly using his technical ability to get past opponents.

Despite playing 235 fewer minutes, Diomande has recorded nine more successful dribbles than Vinícius. His output becomes even more notable when assessed over a standard 90-minute period, with the Ivorian averaging approximately 7.5 successful dribbles compared with Vinícius’ 4.3.

Diomande’s pace, confidence and willingness to challenge defenders have made him an exciting addition to Real Madrid’s attacking options. His direct style offers Mourinho another way to unsettle compact defensive formations, create space in dangerous areas and generate goalscoring opportunities.

His progress could also influence Mourinho’s selection decisions as Real Madrid approach a demanding period in their campaign. If the winger continues producing impressive performances, he could earn a more prominent role, particularly in matches where individual creativity and attacking unpredictability are required to break down opponents.

The upcoming El Clásico against Barcelona could provide Diomande with an important opportunity to demonstrate his abilities on a major stage. With Vinícius reportedly unavailable for the encounter, the Ivorian could be given additional responsibility in Madrid’s attack.

A convincing display against Barcelona would strengthen his case for greater involvement in future matches. It would also give Mourinho further evidence of the youngster’s ability to contribute when the pressure is highest.

Nevertheless, Vinícius remains an established figure with considerable experience in Spanish and European football. His previous contributions and reputation mean that a temporary statistical disadvantage is unlikely, by itself, to result in a permanent reduction in his importance to the team.

For Mourinho, the challenge will be finding the right balance between rewarding Diomande’s current form and recognising the value Vinícius brings to the squad. Competition between the two could provide Madrid with additional attacking options while encouraging both players to maintain high standards.

Diomande’s numbers have already made him a player to watch, but sustaining that level of performance over a full season will be crucial. Consistency, decision-making and contributions beyond dribbling will ultimately determine whether he can establish himself as a regular starter and challenge Vinícius for a leading role in Real Madrid’s attack.
