Mikel Arteta delivers worrying Bukayo Saka injury update with Arsenal staff concerned

According to a report by Football London on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that the club’s medical staff are concerned about Bukayo Saka’s injury after the winger was forced off during their 2-2 Champions League draw against Bayern Munich.

Saka played only 10 minutes at the Allianz Arena before going down in pain, forcing Arsenal to bring on Eberechi Eze as his replacement.

The 25-year-old appeared to suffer a thigh problem after playing a pass, raising concerns about his availability for the Gunners’ upcoming matches.

Speaking after the game, Arteta confirmed that Arsenal would need to assess the injury before determining how long the England international could be out of action.

"They are a bit concerned. A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we'll have to wait and see," the Arsenal manager said.

Saka’s potential absence could create further difficulties for the Premier League champions, especially with several important players already unavailable.

Christos Tzolis is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained while on international duty with Greece. His absence leaves Noni Madueke and Eze as Arsenal’s only recognised wingers available.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has also expressed concern, warning that losing another key attacking player could limit Arteta’s options during a demanding period of the season.

"Well it's worrying because Tzolis on the other wing was injured as well. I think he's trying to dig this one out," Keown said on TNT Sports.

The former defender suggested that Saka’s injury could be serious but stressed that further medical examinations would be necessary before its severity could be established.

"Just trying to scoop it and then he goes down obviously in a lot of pain. It looks like his thigh muscle so that can be a number of weeks and they'll be scanning him tomorrow, early hours of tonight probably trying to get him fit again."

Keown also praised Saka’s importance to Arsenal, highlighting his consistent contributions to the club over recent seasons.

"He's been magnificent for the club the last four or five years."

Arsenal’s injury problems are not limited to the attacking department, with defender William Saliba also unavailable due to a back problem that flared up during the summer’s World Cup.
