According to a report by FootballTransfers on Friday, October 23, 2026, Antonio Conte has responded to speculation linking him with the Manchester United managerial position, insisting that he is not involved in advanced negotiations with the club.
The Italian coach has emerged as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, whose position is reportedly under increasing pressure following United’s disappointing results.
Recent reports claimed that Conte had been in direct contact with Manchester United’s hierarchy and had already outlined his transfer demands ahead of a possible move to Old Trafford. However, the former Chelsea manager has dismissed the claims, stating that no concrete negotiations are underway.
“Following recent media reports in Italy, I feel it is appropriate to clarify my position,” Conte wrote in a statement on Instagram. “My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage.”
Conte explained that he intends to take his time before deciding when and where to return to management following his spell at Napoli. He also denied reports that he had made financial demands or requested complete control at clubs interested in appointing him.
“Should a concrete opportunity arise, that will be the time to hold discussions with the club concerned and jointly consider the terms of a potential agreement,” he added.
The Italian stressed that reports about his demands and future plans should be treated as speculation until a concrete opportunity emerges.
Despite his clarification, Conte remains among the managers reportedly being considered for the Manchester United job.
Carrick is facing mounting pressure after United suffered a 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League. The club have also gone seven matches without a victory across all competitions.
Reports indicate that United’s hierarchy continues to support Carrick for now, although that backing could be tested when the team face Bournemouth on Sunday. Another disappointing result could intensify calls for a managerial change.
Conte is not the only manager linked with the position, as Fabian Hurzeler, Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
For now, however, Conte’s statement makes clear that reports of advanced negotiations or agreed demands regarding a possible move to Old Trafford are premature.
