According to a report by FootballTransfers on Tuesday, October 27, 2024, André Onana’s resurgence in Turkey has reportedly attracted interest from Galatasaray, potentially setting up a transfer battle with Trabzonspor for the Manchester United goalkeeper.
Manchester United signed the Cameroon international from Inter Milan for around €50 million in 2023, with the expectation that he would replace David de Gea. However, a series of costly errors affected Onana’s confidence, leaving his future at Old Trafford uncertain by 2025.
The arrival of Senne Lammens last summer further weakened his chances of reclaiming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper position.
Onana subsequently joined Trabzonspor on loan, where his performances have helped rebuild his reputation. The Turkish club are reportedly interested in making the deal permanent, while United are said to be willing to accept around €10 million next summer, a significant reduction from the €30–40 million previously discussed.
According to Africa Foot, Galatasaray have also begun monitoring the 30-year-old goalkeeper. Their interest comes with an ironic twist, as Trabzonspor turned to Onana after Galatasaray signed their former goalkeeper, Ugurcan Çakır, for a reported €30 million.
Although Onana is believed to be comfortable at Trabzonspor, his long-term intentions remain uncertain. The club’s ambitions and impressive start under manager Thomas Reis could help convince him to stay, but Galatasaray’s interest may complicate efforts to secure his permanent transfer.
With Onana’s contract at Manchester United running until 2028, the club could consider selling him next summer rather than risk receiving a lower fee in the future. Following his difficult spell in England, his improved performances in Turkey have given United an opportunity to recover part of the money invested in him.
