According to a report by The Sun on Friday, October 23, 2026, Antonio Conte has finally addressed speculation linking him with the Manchester United managerial position, insisting that he intends to take his time before deciding on his next career move.
The Italian tactician has emerged as a possible successor to Michael Carrick, whose position at Old Trafford is increasingly under pressure following Manchester United's disappointing results in recent matches.
United's heavy 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League extended their winless run to seven matches, further increasing speculation that the club's hierarchy could consider replacing Carrick.
However, Conte, who departed Napoli in June after a successful spell with the Italian club, has made it clear that he is not currently engaged in advanced negotiations with any team.
Addressing reports connecting him with several clubs, the 57-year-old explained that he would carefully assess his options before deciding when to return to management.
"My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage," Conte said.
"It will be a carefully considered decision, one I will make when I believe the conditions are right."
Conte also dismissed claims that he had already presented financial demands or insisted on having complete control over transfer decisions as part of a potential managerial agreement.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss described such reports as baseless, explaining that any genuine opportunity would require direct discussions with the interested club before the terms of a possible arrangement could be established.
Conte's impressive achievements in English football could strengthen his appeal to Manchester United. During his time at Chelsea, he guided the club to the Premier League title in the 2016-17 season before winning the FA Cup the following campaign.
He also enjoyed considerable success at Napoli, leading the Italian side to the 2024-25 Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup before leaving the club in June.
These accomplishments could make the experienced manager an attractive candidate as Manchester United seek to restore their competitiveness and challenge for major trophies.
Nevertheless, Conte's demanding approach to management and his previous public disagreements with Tottenham's players and board could become important considerations if United decide to pursue his appointment.
For now, the Italian has not confirmed any agreement with Manchester United and maintains that he will only return to the dugout when the right circumstances arise.
Meanwhile, Carrick is expected to remain in charge for Manchester United's Premier League encounter against Bournemouth on Sunday, despite mounting criticism following the Champions League defeat to Como.
United will subsequently face Chelsea, Roma and Aston Villa, with the outcomes of these fixtures potentially proving crucial in determining whether Carrick retains his position at Old Trafford.
