Black Maidens Beat Argentina On Penalties To Reach U17 World Cup Quarter-Finals

Ghana’s Black Maidens have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Argentina in a dramatic Round of 16 encounter on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

According to a report by 3News on October 28, the Ghanaian team won the match on penalties after both sides played out a 1-1 draw during regulation time.

Ghana started the game strongly, with Jessica Appiah scoring the opening goal in the 16th minute to give the Black Maidens an early advantage. However, the team failed to convert several opportunities to extend its lead, allowing Argentina to remain in contention.

The match became more challenging for Ghana in the second half when captain Seidatu Wahab was forced to leave the pitch because of an injury in the 72nd minute. The situation worsened when Hajara Adams received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving Ghana with 10 players.

Argentina capitalised on its numerical advantage and scored the equalising goal in the 85th minute. The goal forced the match into a penalty shootout, where the Black Maidens demonstrated composure under pressure.

Ghana converted all five penalty kicks, with Jessica Appiah scoring the decisive kick to secure victory. Argentina, meanwhile, failed to convert one of its attempts, handing Ghana the win.

The result marks the fifth time the Black Maidens have reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, underlining the country's continued presence in the competition.

Ghana will now face either Kenya or Japan in the quarter-finals as the team pursues a place in the semi-finals. The victory will boost the players' confidence as they prepare for another important challenge in the tournament.
