According to a report by GOAL on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Manchester United players were booed by frustrated passengers during their journey to London on Friday ahead of their Premier League meeting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The incident occurred after heavy traffic disrupted the team's journey to Stockport station, forcing officials to delay a London-bound train by seven minutes to allow the squad to board.
United manager Michael Carrick, his players and members of the backroom staff eventually got on the train but were met with boos from some passengers who had been inconvenienced by the delay.
Interestingly, Carrick received cheers from some people on board, while his players were jeered, according to the Mirror.
The incident reflects the growing frustration surrounding United's disappointing performances this season. The players have already faced criticism from supporters following their 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last Sunday.
During that match, frustrated fans booed the players at Old Trafford but continued chanting Carrick's name, showing their support for the manager despite the club's struggles.
The defeat extended United's winless run in all competitions to eight matches, while they have recorded just one Premier League victory this season.
Carrick's future has also become a subject of discussion, with reports suggesting that he could be dismissed following the Bournemouth defeat. However, the 45-year-old remains in charge ahead of the important trip to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking before the Chelsea encounter, Carrick insisted that he was not seeking assurances from the club's hierarchy and understood the demands of managing Manchester United.
"I don't need any assurances from anyone. I totally get the position. I understand the job. I understand the responsibilities. I understand what comes with that," he said.
The United manager also stressed the importance of supporters, saying their feelings and commitment to the club matter to him.
Manchester United will now hope to put the incident behind them and deliver a positive response against Chelsea. Another defeat would extend their winless run to nine matches and further increase the pressure on the players and their manager.
