Arsenal are reportedly willing to consider selling their captain, Martin Ødegaard, during next summer's transfer window if they fail to reach an agreement with the Norwegian midfielder over a new contract.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Friday, October 30, 2026, the Gunners are making efforts to extend Ødegaard's contract but could approve his departure in 2027 if negotiations do not result in an improved deal.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been a key member of Mikel Arteta's squad since completing his permanent move from Real Madrid to Arsenal in 2021.
He was handed the captain's armband in 2022 and has since become one of Arteta's most trusted and influential players at the Emirates Stadium.
However, questions have started emerging about his long-term future, with the midfielder having slightly more than 18 months remaining on his current contract.
Arsenal are reportedly involved in advanced negotiations over new deals for several important players, including Ødegaard, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Ben White. However, an agreement with the Norwegian international has yet to be reached.
Sky Sports Germany reports that Ødegaard would be interested in joining Bayern Munich at some point in his career, having maintained contact with senior figures at the German club over the years.
Bayern are therefore being considered as one of the potential destinations for the Arsenal captain if the North London club decides to put him up for sale.
Nevertheless, Vincent Kompany's team are not currently pursuing a deal for the midfielder, and reports indicate that he is not among their transfer targets for 2027.
Despite the growing speculation, Arsenal are not expected to be keen on losing Ødegaard because of his importance to Arteta's tactical plans.
The Gunners manager has continued to rely on the Norwegian despite having several other attacking midfield options, including Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz.
Ødegaard has also maintained his importance to the team this season, starting all eight of Arsenal's Premier League matches and recording two goals.
Consequently, Arsenal are expected to make renewing their captain's contract a priority rather than allowing him to leave the club next summer.
