According to a report by Evening Standard on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has received mixed injury updates on Joao Pedro, Jordan Henderson and Emi Martinez ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Sunderland.
Joao Pedro is expected to remain out for several weeks, while Henderson and Martinez could return to action for the trip to the Stadium of Light.
The Blues head into the fixture following an impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer scored to secure all three points, but Alonso will be hoping to have more players available as Chelsea prepare for their next league encounter.
Joao Pedro remains the club's biggest injury concern after suffering a thigh problem during training. The Brazilian forward had previously dealt with a knee injury and visited a specialist as part of his recovery process.
The 24-year-old, who is Chelsea's leading scorer and reigning Player of the Season, is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines.
Alonso has made it clear that the club will not rush the striker's recovery, despite his importance to Chelsea's attacking plans.
"He's a key player. We will miss him, but we have to be ready to deal with the injury, and be competitive and try and win with the players we have available."
Pedro could make his return on November 21 when Chelsea take on Leeds United.
Meanwhile, Henderson is more likely to be available against Sunderland after missing the victory over Manchester United due to illness.
The midfielder played the full 90 minutes against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup but developed a fever ahead of the weekend fixture.
Alonso confirmed that Henderson was not dealing with an injury, suggesting that his absence was only temporary.
Martinez could also provide Chelsea with a major boost after recovering from a broken jaw.
The Argentine goalkeeper suffered the injury following an accidental collision with Jarrad Branthwaite during Chelsea's victory over Everton last month and later underwent surgery.
Alonso revealed that Martinez could return before the November international break, although he may need to wear a protective face mask.
Chelsea will continue to assess both players ahead of the Sunderland encounter as Alonso looks to strengthen his available options.
With Pedro expected to remain unavailable, the possible returns of Henderson and Martinez would provide timely encouragement for Chelsea as they look to maintain their momentum in the Premier League.
