According to a report by Football.london on Friday, October 23, 2026, Pedro Neto has revealed that conversations with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso helped convince him to remain at Stamford Bridge after a turbulent summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old winger attracted interest from Al Hilal and several Premier League clubs, but Chelsea were reluctant to let him leave. The club reportedly placed a £100 million valuation on the Portugal international, viewing him as an important part of Alonso’s plans.
Neto quickly demonstrated his importance to the team after Marco Palestra suffered an injury before the start of the season. He stepped in at wing-back and established himself as a regular member of the side.
The Portuguese international has since scored four goals and provided one assist in nine appearances across all competitions. He also signed a contract extension in September, keeping him at Chelsea until June 2032.
Speaking to The Times ahead of Chelsea’s match against Tottenham, Neto credited his fiancée, Carolina, with helping him manage the uncertainty surrounding his future.
“She has been the base of emotional control,” he said. “Maybe in the transfer window, I was a little bit crazy, because I wanted to solve things here. She helped me a lot. We feel like home here.”
Neto explained that Alonso’s support played a major role in his decision to stay, revealing that the manager outlined his plans and made him feel wanted at the club. Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali also helped reassure him, he added.
“When you feel like you are appreciated, you always feel like home,” Neto said.
The winger is now focused on what he and Chelsea can accomplish together, expressing confidence in the club’s future under Alonso.
“I feel like I want to achieve more things here,” he said. “I’m really excited because I think we can achieve a lot of things together.”
