According to a report by Citi FM on Sunday October 25, 2026, Ghana’s Black Maidens are preparing for a decisive encounter against Argentina in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, as they aim to secure a place in the quarter-finals and continue their campaign on the global stage.

The fixture presents another major test for the young Ghanaian side, which has demonstrated resilience and determination to reach the knockout phase after a challenging start to the tournament.

With qualification for the quarter-finals at stake, the Black Maidens will be eager to maintain their improving form and prove their ability to compete against some of the best young teams in women’s football.

Ghana advanced to the last 16 after collecting four points from three group-stage matches. Their campaign began with a difficult 3-0 defeat to Norway, leaving the team with the task of recovering quickly to keep its hopes of progressing alive.

The Black Maidens responded with a spirited performance against Brazil, battling to an entertaining 3-3 draw in a match that demonstrated their attacking potential and determination.

The result gave Ghana a valuable point and ensured that their qualification hopes remained intact heading into the final group fixture.

Their fate was ultimately decided in a crucial encounter against Canada on Saturday, October 24, when the Ghanaian youngsters delivered an impressive 2-0 victory to book their place in the knockout stage.

The match remained competitive before Ghana found the breakthrough in the second half. Substitute Linda Achiaa made an immediate impact, scoring in the 64th minute with her first touch of the game, just 35 seconds after entering the pitch.

Her timely contribution gave Ghana the advantage and strengthened the team’s determination to secure the result. Christiana Ashiaku subsequently added a second goal in stoppage time, confirming the victory and sparking celebrations among the Ghanaian contingent.

The win was particularly significant following the team’s opening defeat, as it highlighted the players’ ability to respond under pressure and take advantage of important opportunities.

The contribution of the substitutes also underlined the value of squad depth during a demanding international tournament.

Having secured progression, the Black Maidens must now turn their attention to Argentina, who also advanced from the group stage after accumulating six points.

The South American side will provide a different challenge, requiring Ghana to combine defensive discipline with efficiency in front of goal.

The Round of 16 encounter is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Both teams will be seeking victory to move closer to the tournament’s latter stages, making the contest a significant moment in their respective campaigns.

For Ghana, reaching the quarter-finals would represent another important achievement for a team representing the country at youth level.

The players will be expected to draw confidence from their victory over Canada while remaining alert to the demands of facing a side that has also shown its ability to progress through the group phase.

The Black Maidens will need to maintain their concentration, make effective use of scoring opportunities and remain organised throughout the encounter if they are to overcome Argentina. In a knockout match, a single mistake or moment of brilliance could prove decisive.

Head coach Joe Nana Adarkwa and his technical team will also have the task of preparing the players tactically and mentally for the challenge, ensuring they approach the game with the confidence and composure required at this stage of the competition.

As anticipation builds ahead of Wednesday’s showdown, Ghanaian supporters will be hoping the Black Maidens can build on their recent improvement, defeat Argentina and secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The young Ghanaian footballers now have an opportunity to demonstrate their quality, resilience and ambition as they continue their pursuit of success on the international stage.
