Victor Osimhen Scores brace in win over Fenerbahce

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen delivered a match-winning performance for Galatasaray, scoring twice to inspire the Turkish champions to a 2-1 victory over their fierce rivals Fenerbahçe in the Istanbul derby.

The Super Eagles forward proved decisive at RAMS Park, producing two first-half goals that gave the home side a strong advantage in one of Turkish football’s most heated rivalries. Although Fenerbahçe responded after the break, Galatasaray held on to secure all three points.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 29th minute after connecting with a well-weighted pass from Barış Alper Yılmaz. Using his pace and sharp movement, the 27-year-old drove into the penalty area before calmly finishing past Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Ederson to put Galatasaray in front.

The Nigerian international continued to pose problems for the visitors’ defence and struck again shortly before halftime. In the 44th minute, he reacted quickly to Davinson Sánchez’s powerful effort, meeting the ball with a header that sent it into the net and doubled Galatasaray’s lead.

His second goal gave the hosts a comfortable position heading into the interval and left Fenerbahçe with a difficult task after the restart. However, the visitors returned with greater urgency and began searching for a way back into the contest.

Their efforts paid off in the 62nd minute when İrfan Can Kahveci found the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1. The goal increased the pressure on Galatasaray and set up a tense closing period as Fenerbahçe pushed forward in pursuit of an equaliser.

Despite the visitors’ attempts to draw level, Galatasaray remained organised and managed to preserve their advantage until the final whistle. The result secured an important derby victory and allowed the home supporters to celebrate a significant triumph over their biggest domestic rivals.

Osimhen’s influence was not limited to his two goals. He remained a persistent threat throughout the match, testing the opposition defence and looking for further opportunities to extend Galatasaray’s lead. The striker recorded seven shots during the encounter, underlining his involvement in the team’s attacking play.

He also came close to completing a hat-trick, with one of his earlier attempts striking the woodwork. Although he was unable to score a third goal, his overall performance demonstrated his ability to create problems for defenders and deliver when the stakes are high.

The brace further underlined Osimhen’s importance to Galatasaray’s forward line. His movement, finishing and determination helped the hosts establish control during the first half, while his goals ultimately proved decisive in a match that became increasingly competitive after the break.

The victory also provided Galatasaray with valuable bragging rights in Istanbul and a boost to their Turkish Süper Lig campaign. Beating Fenerbahçe in such a high-profile encounter carries significance beyond the points gained, given the intensity of the rivalry between the clubs.

With Osimhen leading the way, Galatasaray secured a result that will strengthen their confidence as they continue their domestic campaign. The Nigerian striker emerged as the standout performer, with his two goals making the difference in a fiercely contested derby.
