According to a report by The Guardian on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Chelsea secured an impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, strengthening their position in the Premier League table and adding to the pressure on Michael Carrick.
The Blues produced a dominant second half performance, with Morgan Rogers opening the scoring in the 50th minute. The midfielder received possession after Roméo Lavia helped Chelsea regain control, drove past Harry Maguire and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Senne Lammens to put the hosts ahead.
Manchester United's hopes of recovering suffered another major setback when Lisandro Martínez was sent off in the 63rd minute after receiving his second yellow card.
Chelsea were subsequently awarded a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted one minute later to double their advantage and put the hosts firmly in control of the contest.
Estevao completed the victory in the 71st minute, finishing a well worked attacking move involving Palmer and Lavia to make it 3-0.
The result represents an important boost for Chelsea as they continue their push towards the top positions in the Premier League.
Before the encounter, Chelsea had collected 13 points from eight matches, while Manchester United had seven points. The victory takes the Blues to 16 points from nine games, moving them above Liverpool, who had 15 points before their next fixture.
Chelsea consequently move into fourth place, behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Brighton, although other results could affect the standings.
Manchester United, meanwhile, remain on seven points after nine matches. Their goal difference has also dropped from minus three to minus six, highlighting their defensive difficulties.
The defeat will increase scrutiny of Carrick's management, particularly following the team's recent heavy loss to Bournemouth. United have now suffered another disappointing result at a time when they desperately need consistency.
Chelsea will hope to build momentum from their convincing performance, while Manchester United must find a response quickly to prevent their difficult start to the campaign from becoming even worse.
