31 October 2026 is a date that Brian Fariñas will always remember. It was the day he made his first-team debut for FC Barcelona, starting the LaLiga match against Alavés at Spotify Camp Nou, which ended in an emphatic 6-1 win.
The Valencian was named in Hansi Flick's starting eleven in an unfamiliar position at right-back, demonstrating his versatility. He had already played in that position during the preseason, where the German coach deployed him for almost half an hour in the 2-2 draw against Birmingham City on 31 July.
Fariñas certainly did not shy away from the action. He was lively going forward, showing flashes of quality in attack, including a clever backheel that left an opposing defender stranded, and linking up well with Lamine Yamal. Rarely tested defensively, the debutant played the full 90 minutes with composure and confidence.
Fariñas has been a member of the first-team squad since this summer. He has been at Barça since 2018, joining as an U14 player and progressing through every stage of the club's eleven-a-side youth system. He developed into a versatile midfielder and, in his final year with the U19s, played a key role in the team's treble of the league, cup and UEFA Youth League.
In the 2025/26 season, with Julaino Belletti in charge of Barça Atlètic, he established himself as a key player for the reserves, making 35 appearances, scoring five goals and providing six assists.
