Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have been nominated for the Women’s National Team of the Year award at the 2026 CAF Awards.
The Black Queens are among 10 national teams shortlisted for the prestigious honour in recognition of their performances in international competitions over the past year.
Ghana will compete against Algeria, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa for the award.
The nomination follows an eventful year for the Black Queens, who featured at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, reaching the quarter-finals before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Malawi.
Despite their quarter-final exit, Ghana bounced back to defeat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the African play-offs, securing a place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup inter-confederation play-offs and keeping their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 tournament alive.
The team’s nomination adds to Ghana’s representation in the women’s categories at this year’s awards.
Black Queens captain Portia Boakye has also been shortlisted for Women’s Player of the Year, while goalkeeper Cynthia Findiib Konlan is in contention for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
The 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for December 7 in Lagos, Nigeria, where Africa’s outstanding footballers, teams and coaches will be honoured.
