Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have reached the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup final for the first time after defeating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final encounter.
The Nigerian side secured the historic victory through goals from Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru, who scored twice to send the team into the final.
Joseph opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Bashiru doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 71st minute. The forward completed her brace in the 80th minute to seal the 3-1 win.
The achievement marks a major milestone for the Flamingos, who previously won bronze at the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Nigeria will now face Japan in the final as they aim to claim their first FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title.
