Former Ghana international Frimpong Manso has urged the Black Stars technical team to give more opportunities to locally based players ahead of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia.
Manso believes the Ghana Premier League has players capable of contributing to the national team and wants the technical team to consider selecting about five of them for the upcoming double-header.
“I feel this is the opportunity to try and give the local players a chance. I feel we can get about five players who have the ability and quality, then we can add the foreign-based players to them,” he told Sporty FM.
He also questioned the need to rely heavily on some foreign-based players, pointing to the fitness concerns surrounding key members of the squad, including Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo.
“If you call Kudus, there’s no way he will come, and even if he does come, he won’t give his best because he returned from injury and is gaining some match fitness. Semenyo is also injured, so who are we calling to the national team?” he added.
Ghana are scheduled to face Somalia on November 12 and 16, in match-day 3 and 4 fixtures of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers
