Alexander Isak shares blunt Liverpool assessment on Champions League setback - 'Not good enough'

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak said it was "not good enough" for the Reds to have moved in front twice against Fenerbahce in the Champions League, only to come away with no points.

The impressive Trey Nyoni opened the scoring and Isak netted almost as soon as he was introduced in the second half, but Liverpool lost 3-2 with Vedat Muriqi finding a late winner after some poor defending.

Jeremy Jacquet really struggled and Alisson Becker had an outing to forget as Liverpool toiled at the back. While Andoni Iraola's men scored twice, mistakes at the back proved costly — and it could have been worse.

Kostas Tsimikas was fortunate not to concede a penalty and be sent off in the first half, and Iraola's experiment with Bradley Barcola playing as a number nine failed to pay off.

"It's never easy here but today I think we could and should get more out of the game," Isak said at full-time.

"It's a bit sloppy that we had the lead twice and for us to then lose the game is not good enough. Obviously we're going to be disappointed from that.

"The atmosphere is really good and it's tough, of course. So, the one thing you can do to keep them quiet is score goals.

"So, it's a shame that we conceded quickly and we should capitalize on that. That's where we were lacking today.

"I think we've put ourselves in good positions, so that today if we lose this game it's not a chaos situation. We just need to get back to winning ways and if we win the next game, we are back to a really good position."

While Isak was on the losing side, he did score his first Champions League goal since signing for Liverpool from Newcastle just over a year ago.

"I was happy with it at the time," Isak, speaking to club media, added. "I was hoping that it was going to lead to more. I'm always happy to score goals but today we lost, so it takes a bit from it."
