FC Twente continued their impressive start to the UEFA Conference League with a convincing 4-1 victory over Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The Dutch side secured their second consecutive European victory at the Europa Point Stadium, with Thomas van den Belt scoring twice, while Wout Weghorst and Daouda Weidmann also found the net.
The result leaves FC Twente with six points from their opening two matches, strengthening their position in the competition’s league phase.
FC Twente started strongly, dominating possession and creating several opportunities against the Gibraltar champions.
Their pressure paid off in the 19th minute when Wout Weghorst delivered a well-timed pass to Thomas van den Belt, who finished from close range to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later, Weghorst doubled Twente’s advantage.
The Dutch striker reacted quickly to a loose ball and fired it into the net. Although the goal was initially ruled out for offside, a VAR review overturned the decision and confirmed the goal.
With a two-goal advantage after just 24 minutes, Twente appeared to be heading toward a comfortable victory.
Despite Twente’s dominance, Lincoln Red Imps managed to reduce the deficit before halftime.
Veteran midfielder Nano, 41, scored from a free kick in the 38th minute after his effort deflected off Ruud Nijstad in the Twente defensive wall.
The deflection wrong-footed goalkeeper Joël Drommel, allowing the home side to make it 2-1.
Lincoln briefly threatened to equalize, with Álex Mula creating another opportunity before the interval.
However, Twente maintained their lead heading into halftime.
FC Twente regained control after the break and restored their two-goal advantage in the 57th minute.
Van den Belt completed his brace following a well-worked attacking move involving Bart van Rooij and Daan Rots.
The midfielder finished from close range to make the score 3-1, putting the Dutch visitors firmly in control.
Head coach John van den Brom subsequently introduced several substitutes as Twente continued to dominate proceedings.
Norwegian winger Sondre Ørjasaeter came close to adding another goal but failed to convert a clear opportunity.
Weghorst also had chances to score his second of the evening but was unable to find the net again.
Twente completed their convincing victory in stoppage time when substitute Daouda Weidmann scored the fourth goal.
The French midfielder struck from distance to seal a 4-1 win and ensure the Dutch club maintained its perfect European record.
The match also marked a memorable occasion for 18-year-old defender Jip Meilink, who made his first-team debut after being introduced late in the game.
Thursday’s victory followed Twente’s 1-0 win over Swiss club FC Thun in their opening Conference League fixture on October 15.
With two wins from two matches, the Enschede-based club has collected six points and scored five goals while conceding just once.
Lincoln Red Imps, meanwhile, remain without a point after losing their opening match 2-1 against Norwegian club SK Brann.
The Gibraltar side, which has won 30 domestic league titles, struggled to match Twente’s attacking quality despite briefly threatening a comeback.
FC Twente will now turn their attention to their remaining Conference League fixtures as they seek qualification for the knockout stages.
Their upcoming opponents include Pafos FC of Cyprus, Germany’s SC Freiburg, Denmark’s AGF Aarhus and Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty.
Before returning to European action, Twente face an important domestic fixture against AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie.
The victory in Gibraltar gives Van den Brom’s team momentum as they continue their campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
