The voting choices of the 100 jurors who took part in the Ballon d’Or 2026 poll have been revealed, with several African countries backing Kylian Mbappe, while Morocco’s representative selected home favourite Achraf Hakimi.
The results were published by French newspaper L’Equipe on Friday, four days after the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony in London. Harry Kane collected the award ahead of Kylian Mbappe, who finished second, and Lamine Yamal, who was third.
Morocco’s vote went to Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco right-back. Journalist Mostafa Badri was the only member of the jury to select the 27-year-old, who has won 103 caps and scored 12 goals for the Lions of the Atlas.
Mbappe received support from nine of the 20 African jurors. The Real Madrid forward was chosen by representatives from Benin, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia.
Algeria selected Lamine Yamal, while Harry Kane was backed by South Africa, Angola, Uganda and Senegal.
The outcome also showed the different choices made by the continent’s juries. Despite Kane winning the award, only four African countries placed their vote behind the England striker, while Mbappe was the most widely supported player among the African voters.
Sadio Mane, who finished 29th and joint second-last in the overall standings alongside William Saliba, received recognition from Gabon. The Senegal forward was placed in the top nine by the journalist representing that country.
