Former Black Stars captain visits Ghana’s amputee team in training, urges national support for their World Cup campaign in Mexico
A former Black Stars captain André Ayew has donated to Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, as they prepare for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
Ayew visited the team during a training session, where he encouraged the players and presented the donation. The amount has not been disclosed.
“I’m here to support and give you all the love and power that I can give you, and to wish you great luck,” he told the players. “I hope that you guys will bring us a medal, but the gold will be better.”
The Black Challenge will compete from 13 to 22 November 2026 in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq, in a tournament featuring 24 national teams.
Ayew’s visit has drawn fresh attention to the need for sustained support for athletes with disabilities. The team’s campaign is also seen as a chance for the country to show that national pride extends to every athlete who carries the flag.
Businesses, institutions and sports leaders have been urged to back the team with practical support as preparations intensify.
“One flag, one dream, one love,” the call goes, as Ghana rallies behind the Black Challenge.
