Award-winning broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi has thrown his support behind former Ghana captain Andre Ayew to become president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Sefa Kayi has publicly declared his willingness to support Ayew should the former Black Stars skipper decide to contest the position in the October 2027 elections.
The veteran journalist believes Ghana football needs a change in leadership and a new direction amid growing criticism of the administration led by Kurt Okraku.
“If he has not declared, then I am declaring for him. If Dede [Ayew] decides to contest, I will support him, and I wish everybody would do the same so that there will be changes,” Sefa Kayi said on Peace FM.
“For this, I have declared that I am not saying I am biased. For this, I have an interest.”
Ayew, who has captained Ghana at major international tournaments, is yet to publicly confirm whether he intends to enter the race, despite reports of approaches from people within football circles encouraging him to run.
Several football administrators have already been linked with a possible challenge for the GFA presidency next year.
They include football administrator Samuel Annim Addo, former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman Ralph Gyambrah and Karela United chief executive officer Elloeny Amande.
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has also been linked with a potential bid for the position.
The GFA is expected to hold its next presidential elections in October 2027, with the contest likely to draw attention as stakeholders debate the future direction of Ghana football.
