The Black Starlets of Ghana have missed out on a bronze medal at the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship following a 2-0 defeat to hosts Burkina Faso in the third-place playoff.
The defeat ended Ghana’s hopes of finishing the competition on a positive note after their campaign took a difficult turn in the semi-finals.
The Starlets had earlier suffered a semi-final loss to Côte d’Ivoire, leaving them with the bronze-medal match as their final opportunity to secure a podium finish.
However, Burkina Faso proved too strong for the Ghanaian side, scoring twice to seal victory and claim third place in front of their home supporters.
The result also means Ghana have failed to qualify for the next U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, extending their disappointment after missing out on the final of the regional tournament.
