‘Don’t accept offers if you are not ready to serve’ – Samuel Inkoom to Kotoko players

Former Asante Kotoko defender Samuel Inkoom has urged players who are unwilling to commit fully to the club to reject offers to join the Porcupine Warriors, insisting that representing the Kumasi-based side requires dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.

The Ghanaian giants have struggled to make an impact in recent seasons, with their last Ghana Premier League title triumph coming in the 2021/22 campaign.

This season, Asante Kotoko have been inconsistent, recording three wins, two draws and two defeats after seven matches in the league.

Speaking to Obaapa Radio, Inkoom said some players in the current squad do not fully understand the responsibility that comes with playing for the club, challenging them to show greater commitment and repay the supporters with victories.

“Most of the Kotoko players don’t know why they are playing for the club. If you are not ready, don’t accept any offer to join because you want to play for the club for playing sake. The only bonus for the fans is victory and nothing else,” he said.

Reflecting on his time at Kotoko, the former Ghana international highlighted the remarkable support he received from the club’s fans, revealing that their generosity extended beyond backing the team on matchdays.

“During my time with Kotoko, I never used my own money to feed myself. The fans bought me my first car, and I got everything I wanted at Kotoko,” he added.

Inkoom has consequently appealed to the current squad to unite, fight for the club and demonstrate the level of commitment expected from players who wear the famous red jersey.

“I will plead with the current squad to show full commitment and serve Kotoko. The players must come together as a team. The players are doing well, but it is not enough. They have to fight, and I know they can do it,” he said.

Asante Kotoko face a crucial test this weekend when they take on regional rivals FC Ashantigold 04 in matchday eight of the Ghana Premier League, with Inkoom’s call for greater commitment providing a timely reminder of the expectations that come with representing the Porcupine Warriors.
