Bibiani Gold Stars head coach Petros Koukouras has criticised the condition of Debibi Presby Park, suggesting the playing surface was more suitable for cassava farming than football.
His comments followed Gold Stars’ 1-0 defeat by Debibi United in their Matchday 7 fixture in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League over the weekend.
Maxwell Agyemang scored shortly before half-time to secure victory for the hosts, ending their three-match winless run and moving them level on seven points with Gold Stars.
The result also lifted Debibi United out of the relegation zone as they continue their bid to establish themselves in the top flight.
Speaking after the match, Koukouras expressed his frustration with the state of the pitch, arguing that its condition made it difficult to focus on the football.
“We cannot discuss football. I don’t think this is a pitch designated for football. Maybe it is designated for cassava plantation. I don’t have anything else to say,” he said.
The defeat leaves Gold Stars with work to do as they seek to revive their campaign.
Koukouras’ side will return to action this weekend when they host Heart of Lions in their Matchday 8 fixture.
Debibi United, meanwhile, will look to build on their crucial victory when they travel to face Bechem United.
