Ghanaian table tennis official David Senyo Ahiaba is set to officiate at the 2026 ITTF African Championships in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to 25, marking another important step in his officiating career.

Senyo described his selection by the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) as a great honour, expressing excitement about the opportunity to gain valuable experience and advance his development as an umpire.

“It is a great honour done me by being selected by ATTF to officiate at the Senior Championships in Morocco. It is a nice opportunity for me to move one step further through the valuable lessons and experiences that come with it,” he said.

In preparation for the continental championship, Senyo explained that he regularly revises his notes and reflects on feedback from experts regarding his previous performances. He believes the process has helped build his confidence ahead of subsequent assignments.

“As an experienced umpire, revising my notes and paying attention to feedback given by experts on my previous umpiring skills have always helped to build my confidence for the subsequent events.”

He added that he was looking forward to learning more and gaining experiences that would take his umpiring career to the next level.

Senyo also expressed gratitude to God, the ATTF leadership, particularly its president, Mr. Wahid Oshodi, and the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) executives led by Mr Mawuko Afadzinu.

He also acknowledged his mentors and others who have contributed to his development as an official.

Despite the progress he has made, Senyo remains focused on a bigger ambition: attaining Gold Badge status, one of the highest levels of international recognition for a table tennis umpire.

“I am not at the highest point but I'm definitely at a better place than I used to be in terms of umpiring. The ultimate is to attain the GOLD BADGE status. I trust the process which will eventually bring that dream to reality,” he added.

The 2026 ITTF African Championships will bring together players and officials from across the continent in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to 25.
