Azam FC secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the second consecutive season after edging Egypt’s Zed FC 1–0 on Saturday afternoon, sealing a 2–1 aggregate victory.
The Tanzanian side produced a disciplined performance on home soil to overcome a determined Zed FC team and advance to the next phase of the continental competition.
After a tightly contested first half that ended goalless, Azam FC found the breakthrough in the 65th minute through winger Iddy Nado, whose decisive finish put the hosts ahead and gave them the advantage in the tie.
Zed FC responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but Azam FC remained organised defensively, frustrating the Egyptian visitors and protecting their lead until the final whistle.
The narrow victory proved sufficient for Azam FC to progress with a 2–1 aggregate score, underlining their growing consistency in continental football.
Azam FC will now turn their attention to the group stage, where they will aim to build on their qualification and make a strong impression against Africa’s leading clubs.
