Liverpool confirms 22-man traveling squad for Fenerbahce as Ryan Gravenberch absence explained

Liverpool has confirmed its 22-man traveling squad to face Fenerbahce in the Champions League, with Andoni Iraola likely to make some changes to his starting XI in Turkiye

Liverpool has named a 22-man traveling party that will head to Fenerbahce this week in the Champions League, with Andoni Iraola's side looking to maintain its 100 per cent record in the competition.

So far, the Reds have beaten Atletico Madrid, LASK and Villarreal with relative ease. After Fenerbahce, it still has matches against Club Brugge, FC Porto, Inter Milan and Lens to come.

Last time out in the Champions League, Iraola started Lewis Koumas up top in place of Alexander Isak. Kostas Tsimikas and Ryan Gravenberch were also among those to come into the line-up, while Florian Wirtz came on at half-time.

This time, however, Gravenberch has missed out because of a heel injury. The Dutchman is remaining on Merseyside for treatment on the issue, with Iraola expected to offer an update in his press conference later today.

Liverpool squad in full: Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Jacquet, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Isak, Mac Allister, Gakpo, Tsimikas, Munoz, Mamardashvili, Woodman, Barcola, Araujo, Nyoni, Chambers, McConnell, Koumas, Ngumoha, Danns.

Gravenberch missing out makes it even more likely that Szoboszlai will start his first game since a recent injury. He said over the weekend that he was fit enough against Arsenal had he been selected from the off.

"It’s very hard, you know," Szoboszlai explained. "I’m the type of player, as you might know, that the last three seasons I want to play every 90 minutes.

"But sometimes, your body says ‘rest a little bit’ and my body told me to ‘Stay calm, you’ve had enough games now’. I missed games against Man City and LASK and then I felt again very good after a couple of days off but it seemed I wasn’t ready.

"Sometimes it is my heart and I listen to my heart and not my body. These decisions I made with what happened in the last weeks so today was the plan to come in — I was actually ready from the start but I’ve played 30 minutes and let’s see from now on."

Szoboszlai has mainly played as a number eight for Liverpool, but the 25-year-old is equally happy to play as a number six or a number 10 too.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"It depends where (Iraola) puts me," he added in a chat with reporters at Anfield. "As a six, he might ask me different stuff, and as a 10, he might ask me different stuff as an eight.

"I only know before the game what I’m going to play, we all know only before the game so from there is only one and half hours to discuss with him the stuff he wants to do in the game and how he wants you to play."

Liverpool.com says: Making changes for this game would appear to be sensible. Liverpool will want to win, but it is far from the most important game of the week.

Given that the Reds have already won nine points from nine in Europe this season, there is a margin for error. Finishing in the top eight should be comfortable enough even if Liverpool is beaten here.
