Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge this afternoon with both sides looking to bounce back from disappointing results in the Premier League.

Xabi Alonso’s men suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Tottenham last weekend, ending a two-match winning run that had seen them beat Bournemouth and Everton.

The Blues were then knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool on penalties in midweek, leaving Alonso searching for a response against one of the Red Devils.

Manchester United, meanwhile, arrive in West London in desperate need of a win after an eight-match winless run in all competitions.

Michael Carrick’s side were thrashed 3-0 by Bournemouth at Old Trafford last Sunday, a result that left them 16th in the Premier League and just one point above the relegation zone.

United have won just once in eight league matches this season, piling further pressure on Carrick, who has faced increasing questions over his future.

The Red Devils can at least take encouragement from their recent record against Chelsea, having beaten the Blues home and away last season.
