He is an avid fiction reader of the science fiction and mystery thriller genres but his favorite hobby (besides sports) is Legos.
Bayern Munich defeated Atlético Madrid in a very calculating 2-0 victory at the vaunted Metropolitano. Lennart Karl scored the game winner in the 54th minute but that forced Atletico to make offensive substitutions and press for a game-tying goal. After 20 dangerous minutes, Harry Kane sucked in the Atlético defense to find a flying Konrad Laimer on the other side of the pitch. Laimer walked the ball straight toward goal before ripping a shot into the roof of the net.
In the postgame interview (captured via @iMiaSanMia), Laimer detailed his thought process on his goal that put the game out of reach.
“The boys told me: why did you take too long to shoot?” said Laimer. “I thought I’d take a bit more time this time before doing something too quickly, as I sometimes do, only for it not to come off properly. Ultimately, Harry played an outstanding pass. I controlled it, looked up to see if there was anything else I could do, and then simply finished it with a clean, composed strike.
“Sometimes you can tell as soon as the ball leaves your foot whether it’s going to be a good one or not. And I immediately thought, ‘Oh, yes, that feels really good!’ — I’m absolutely delighted to score a goal in a game like this and help the team.”
Laimer also scored in Bayern’s 2-2 Der Klassiker match over the weekend, marking the first time in his career that he has scored in consecutive matches.
