Morgan Feeney signs Carlisle United deal until 2029

The influential defender and skipper has committed his future to the Blues in a major boost to the club.

Feeney's two-year deal was due to expire next summer and United have acted to secure the 27-year-old for longer.

The move will prolong the centre-back's second spell with the club, with the news announced ahead of United's home National League clash with Harrogate Town.

"I’m really happy to commit my future to Carlisle United for another two years," said Feeney in a club statement.

"It’s been something I’ve wanted to sort out for a while, and I’m delighted we’ve finally got it done.

"This club means a lot to me, and being able to continue representing and captaining Carlisle United is something I’m proud of. I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard and helping the team progress.

"This is a massive club with an incredible fan base who follows us in numbers everywhere, that doesn’t go unnoticed and is appreciated more than they know.

"I want to do all I can to help the club get back to where it belongs in the EFL and give the fans what they deserve, a club and a team to be proud of."

Head coach Rob Elliot said Feeney "epitomises" what a captain of Carlisle should be, adding: "It's brilliant for the future to know that he's going to be our captain, not just this year but beyond.

"I couldn't ask for a better person to wear the armband and represent the club. He's not only influential on the pitch, but he's just as influential off the pitch. Most importantly, he's a great person."

Sporting director Marc Tierney added that Feeney's contract extension was "a positive step as we continue to build for the future."

He added: "As a club, we’re looking to move forward and develop a squad capable of achieving our ambitions.

"Having players like Morgan, who can set standards, drive those around them and contribute consistently, is a key part of that.

"He’s approaching what should be the peak years of his career, and we believe he can play a major role in helping us take the club forward during that period.

"It’s also a reflection of the belief Morgan has in the direction we’re heading. We’re pleased to have him committed to Carlisle United for the years ahead and look forward to seeing the impact he can continue to make as we progress."

Feeney, who rejoined Carlisle from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2025, has made 51 appearances so far in his second spell with the club.

His initial spell from 2021 to 2023, brought 77 appearances for the ex-Everton and Sunderland player.
