The first 24 games were a struggle for Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward. He was constantly getting sacked as a rookie and his completion percentage was under 60 percent. His 2026 season was not looking much better until he faced the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday.
Despite losing the game 43-36 in overtime, Ward finished the game with a completion percentage of 65 percent, was only sacked twice and threw two touchdowns. It was also his first game with over 300 passing yards of his career. More importantly, he did not throw an interception after having a pick in each of the last five games.
Former NFL player and current NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger broke down Ward’s film from the loss to Cincinnati. What he was most impressed by was Ward’s fundamentals. He kept his shoulders square, had quick eyes to read the defense and great through his progressions and had excellent ball placement throughout the game.
Baldinger also pointed out that the run-pass option worked very well for Ward in this game. Some of his best passes came on RPOs, and it helped Tennessee sustain drives and stay competitive. He also said the pass-action game worked well for Ward and that the Titans need to use it more throughout the rest of the season.
Tennessee is on bye this week, but will have the opportunity to get their second win of the season in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It will be the first time the Titans play Jacksonville this year, and they will play the Jaguars again in Week 12.
