‘Are You Trolling Or Did You Hear Something?’ — NFL Fans Get Vocal as Insider Speculates on Radical Kevin O’Connell Trade To AFC Team

The 2026 NFL season is almost halfway through, and teams now have a clearer picture of what to expect from the remaining games. For the New York Jets, however, things are going downhill, and calls are mounting for head coach Aaron Glenn’s dismissal.

The firing debate intensified after the team’s humiliating loss to the Las Vegas Raiders despite holding a halftime lead.

The collapse came in the second half, with the defense struggling to stop Kirk Cousins and allowing the Raiders to take control when it mattered most.

Kevin O’Connell – Jets Trade Rumors Turn Heads

In the aftermath of the heat rising around Glenn’s role at 1 Jets Drive, insider Benjamin Allbright floated a proposal that turned a few heads. In response to a post asking who could be the next head coach of the Jets, Allbright suggested they should trade for Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Fans, of course, were caught off guard by the suggestion and flooded the comments with stunned reactions, even as Allbright said he was just “throwing a little dynamite in the fish tank.”

“Are you trolling or did you hear something??????” one fan wrote in response to Allbright’s radical suggestion.

“Don’t get us excited, Ben,” another fan said.

Meanwhile, another fan speculated that Brian Flores could be promoted to head coach in Minnesota if O’Connell were to leave. “And then, Flores is elevated by MN,” the fan wrote.

“A KOC trade makes a lot of sense actually,” another fan commented.

One user echoed a similar sentiment, writing, “I pray you’re right.”

Meanwhile, one Jets fan drew a bizarre comparison, pointing out the apparent contradiction in the team’s potential coaching preferences, writing: “Doesn’t want Tomlin because of lack of playoff success, have to give up draft pick, failed to develop QB. Wants Kevin O’Connell. Have to trade for him, zero playoff success, failed miserably with McCarthy development and offense stinks again this year. Makes sense.”

O’Connell is currently under contract with the Vikings after signing an extension in January 2025. His deal keeps him with the organization through the 2029 season.

Any attempt to pry him away would likely require a significant trade package, but the Vikings really have no incentive to part ways with him.

However, O’Connell shares a close relationship and personal history with Jets general manager Darren Mougey, dating back to their college days as teammates at San Diego State.

Following their Week 8 loss, the Jets have fallen to 2-6, while Glenn’s record as head coach has dropped to an abysmal 5-20.

The Jets are currently ranked No. 20 in PFN’s NFL Team Impact Rankings. They will next face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, November 8, 2026, in Week 9.
