Marc Marquez edges closer to a historic 10th MotoGP world title with a commanding victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix, putting him on the brink of sealing the championship in Qatar. The Spanish star dominated the Sepang circuit, outpacing Pedro Acosta and his brother Alex Marquez to claim a decisive win that amplifies his championship lead to 44 points following Jorge Martin’s withdrawal from the race. Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi could only manage sixth place, now trailing Marquez by a daunting 67 points in the title chase.

Despite speculation about Marquez’s future beyond 2026, Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi remains unwaveringly confident that the eight-time premier class champion will continue racing. Addressing concerns on TNT Sports 2 after the Malaysian GP, Tardozzi stated, “No. No. Marc has an agreement with us for the next two years, ’27, ’28. I’m sure that he will be with us.” He acknowledged the physical toll on Marquez’s body, citing ongoing struggles with his right shoulder and arm due to previous injuries, but emphasized the rider’s extraordinary focus and determination. “The focus he has every day in training, in the gym, with the road bikes on the smaller race track, I never saw in the past. A guy so focused every minute of the day on the result.”

Marquez’s comeback this season has been nothing short of remarkable. After returning at Mugello trailing by 102 points following a severe crash at Le Mans, which required surgery on his broken foot and left nerve damage in his right arm, he has methodically clawed his way back to the forefront of the championship. His cautious approach this season, including skipping non-essential events like the promotional go-kart race in Japan, underscores his commitment to preserving his fitness and prolonging his career.

While some voices, including former rider Andrea Dovizioso, speculate that Marquez may retire immediately after clinching the title, Tardozzi’s comments underscore Ducati’s expectation that Marquez will honour his contract through 2028. Marquez’s initial hesitation to sign the two-year deal reflected his concerns over his physical condition, yet his current performance and intense focus suggest he remains determined to push forward.

As Marquez prepares to potentially clinch his 10th premier class crown in Qatar, the question of his future beyond 2026 remains a hot topic, but Ducati’s leadership appears resolute in their belief that the “Ant of Cervera” will continue to race at the highest level for years to come.
