A frustrated Lewis Hamilton has called for showdown talks at Ferrari after he claimed that more drama with team-mate Charles Leclerc cost him the victory at the Mexican Grand Prix

Just as they did at the Italian Grand Prix back in early September, Hamilton and Leclerc battled hard from the start in Mexico City, with their fight coming to a head at turns four and five on lap one.

Leclerc tried to pass Hamilton on the outside into turn four but didn't make the corner, cutting across the grass and taking the lead by cutting turn five. Hamilton didn't make turn four, either, but he returned to the track for turn five and yielded P2 to Max Verstappen.

Immediately, Hamilton got on the radio to his engineer, fuming: "Pushed out by my own team-mate."

Hamilton was even less happy when the stewards only gave Leclerc a five-second penalty: "The stewards are basically handing Charles this win. We agreed in the drivers' briefing," a frustrated Hamilton told his team.

Eventually, Hamilton went on to pass Leclerc in the latter stages of the race, making the most of another standing start after Valtteri Bottas' 200mph crash saw the race red-flagged.

However, he did not have enough to pass Max Verstappen, who eventually went on to claim the race victory, just 0.799 seconds ahead of the seven-time world champion.

Post-race, Hamilton said that Ferrari would take their discussions 'offline' but demanded that 'serious talks' now had to take place between himself, Leclerc and the team.

“Tough day. I think we had the pace to win today, but it wasn’t meant to be, and we’ll take it offline and figure out what we can do in the background," Hamilton told Sky Sports.

“In the drivers’ briefing, we discussed as soon as you go off in Turn 1, you have to give the position back. Last year I got a 10-second penalty for that same move that he did."

"Ultimately, it was that that lost us the win today," Hamilton continued. "I think we have to have some serious talks behind the scenes, for sure."

Hamilton reiterated that message in the top three drivers' press conference, stating that incidents like the one in Mexico City would continue to happen without a 'deep, serious' debrief.

“Part of the job and part of our contract is we have to work as a team, which we could have easily done today," the seven-time world champion argued.

“It's a shame to see us lose as we did. It will continue unless action is taken. If a real, deep, serious conversation isn’t had."
