Palmeiras routed Remo 6–1 at Nubank Parque, powered by an attacking display that saw Abel Ferreira give midfielder Maurício more freedom to link the midfield to the attack, according to R7 Esportes. The emphatic victory showcased a liberated midfield connection that left the opposition defense scrambling. Manager Abel Ferreira acknowledged after the match that Maurício’s recent performances have made him undroppable in the starting lineup as the club pursues a historic treble.

Maurício has tallied 15 goals this season despite not always holding a guaranteed spot in the opening eleven. Against Remo, the midfielder orchestrated transitions from the center of the pitch to the attacking third, operating with freedom to exploit defensive gaps.

Abel Ferreira Deploys Deeper Midfielders for Tactical Shift

The tactical shift required significant reconfiguration in the squad. Abel Ferreira deployed Evangelista and Marlon Freitas as deep-lying midfielders, anchoring a formation that pushed Maurício higher up alongside Arias and Flaco López.

Abel Ferreira emphasized that squad depth remains crucial during a congested calendar. The Portuguese coach has maintained that rotating personnel is a necessity imposed by fixture congestion and physical demands.

The Rationale Behind the Scoreline and Revenge Factor

R7 Esportes noted that the 6–1 scoreline carried an underlying sense of vengeance for points dropped in a previous draw against Remo in Belém. Abel Ferreira’s side capitalized fully on home turf, with Arias scoring twice alongside goals from Maurício, an own goal by Marcelinho, Flaco López, and Felipe Anderson.

CNN Brasil reported that Abel praised his team’s efficiency in creating chances without exposing themselves to defensive transitions against Remo’s defensive setup.

Flamengo Holds Three Point Title Race Advantage

Despite the commanding win, Abel Ferreira conceded the Campeonato Brasileiro title advantage to Flamengo. With four rounds remaining, Flamengo holds a three-point lead and a superior number of wins. Even if Palmeiras wins their direct encounter scheduled for November 21 in São Paulo, Flamengo can secure the title by winning their remaining three fixtures.

Abel also questioned the scheduling impact of international call-ups during the upcoming FIFA window. CNN Brasil highlighted the manager’s frustration regarding the Brazilian Football Confederation’s (CBF) selection criteria, noting that Palmeiras lost key players to South American qualifiers while title rivals retained theirs.
