Malick Yalcouye, the 1.69-meter former Sturm Graz forward, scored the decisive goal in the 64th minute to give Brighton & Hove Albion a 1-0 away win over Getafe in the third round of the UEFA Conference League, LAOLA1 reported. The match was played on November 6, 2026 at 3:00 AM at the Coliseum Stadium. Getafe entered the fixture 13th in La Liga with 12 points and a goal record of 8:16, while Brighton’s squad carried a value of 700 million euros. The header moved Brighton up to fifth place in the group table, while Austrian international Michael Svoboda played for the Spanish hosts.
Minutes before halftime, his shot was cleared off the line by a Getafe defender in the final seconds of the first half — LAOLA1 described it as the best chance of the opening period. After the break, Brighton remained the more dangerous side, and Yalcouye made no mistake the second time, rising to head home the winner despite his modest height.
Getafe rarely found relief on the counterattack, and Brighton missed several chances to extend the lead. The hosts pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages but created no clear scoring opportunities and could not prevent the narrow defeat, according to LAOLA1.
The 64th-minute goal was Yalcouye’s only shot on target that decided the match, but his influence was felt earlier: the pre-halftime effort that was hacked clear on the line showed the threat he posed from open play. Brighton had scored 16 goals and conceded 10 in the tournament, averaging 2.89 goals per match, and only Liverpool and Chelsea had defeated them on the road. The Seagulls had also gone unbeaten in their last two league games against Manchester City, collecting four points from a 3:2 aggregate. LAOLA1 noted that Brighton repeatedly came close to doubling their advantage after the break, a sequence that underlined how much of the attacking play ran through the Ivorian forward.
With the away win, Brighton moved to fifth place in the Conference League table.
Žalgiris, meanwhile, remain winless at the foot of the table after the heavy loss in Switzerland. The clubs had met once previously, on August 7, 2021, when Getafe prevailed 2-0. In the Conference League structure, the top eight teams advance directly to the round of 16, sides placed 9-24 contest the playoffs, and those finishing 25-36 are eliminated.
In the third round of the UEFA Conference League, both Austrian players’ clubs competed, with Brighton moving to fifth place and Žalgiris remaining without points.
