Brighton & Hove Albion maintained their strong momentum on Thursday, defeating Getafe 1-0 at the Coliseum. The result, confirmed by reports, saw the third-placed Premier League side overcome a disciplined first-half performance from the Spanish hosts to secure the narrow victory.

Following recent high-profile wins against Manchester City and Arsenal, Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton side faced early pressure in Spain. Getafe, looking to move past a difficult 5-2 defeat to Lugano two weeks prior, utilized a high-pressing defensive line that disrupted the visitors’ rhythm for much of the opening half.

First-Half Opportunities for Getafe

The intensity brought by José Bordalás’s side created significant chances before the break. Around the 30-minute mark, Getafe forward Iván Azón forced a notable save from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen at close range. Shortly after, Jaouen Hadjam missed a clear scoring opportunity, striking the post in a one-on-one situation against David Soria. A follow-up attempt by Malick Yalcouye was then cleared off the goal line by defender Sebastián Boselli.

Despite the pressure, Brighton’s Georginio Rutter remained a constant threat on the counter-attack, providing a tactical challenge that Martín Satriano worked to contain for the home side.

Malick Yalcouye Secures Victory with Second-Half Header

Brighton adjusted their approach after the interval, focusing on connecting play between the lines to push Getafe deeper into their own half. The tactical shift yielded results in the 52nd minute when a strike from Hadjam narrowly cleared the crossbar, signaling a sustained period of control for the visitors.

The decisive moment arrived when Malick Yalcouye connected with a header that struck the underside of the woodwork before finding the net. Getafe struggled to respond, managing only a late defensive intervention from Boselli to deny Rutter a second goal for the visitors.
