Mike Perry doesn’t make financial sense right now says BKFC boss in reaction to star moving on

Dave Feldman believes BKFC don’t need Mike Perry to sell tickets at the moment.

Perry’s loss to Brandon Jenkins in August was his second consecutive MMA fight of the year.

‘Platinum’ has been one of BKFC’s biggest success stories, but hasn’t fought for the promotion in over a year at this stage.

Perry recently confirmed that he’s moving on from bare-knuckle and choosing to focus on MMA, which his former home believes makes sense for both parties.

Dave Feldman says BKFC banking on homegrown talent over ‘huge names’ like Mike Perry

Mike Perry stopped Jeremy Stephens last year in another marquee matchup that will have caught the attention of MMA fans.

Since then, the promotion have had to rely on a different way of selling tickets for their biggest events, by booking local fighters with big followings.

The likes of Sean Weir selling more than any other individual in the promotion’s history ahead of their debut in Glasgow has meant that they haven’t lacked having a big crossover name in action.

This is what Dave Feldman spoke about when he was recently asked about Perry’s comments on deciding to move on from the bare-knuckle chapter of his career.

“Look, this isn’t talking bad about Mike Perry,” the BKFC boss told MMA Fighting. “He did a lot of great stuff for our company… I’m not going to say we don’t need him, but the money that it costs to bring Mike Perry back to BKFC, doesn’t make a lot of sense for us right now. That’s how I’m trying to say it is.”

In the interview, Feldman highlighted them selling 14,000 tickets at Fenway Park and expecting to sell 18,000 in Philadelphia without one “huge name” on the card as the proof of this.

He credited Perry with doing great things for the company but is confident that “homegrown talent is doing it now.”

Dave Feldman says Mike Perry got an offer he can’t refuse

The first comments out of Dave Feldman’s mouth when asked about Mike Perry choosing to pursue MMA were that he got a “great offer he couldn’t refuse”.

While it looks like their paths have gone in different directions, the BKFC president still has good things to say about his former star.

“I wish him the best,” Feldman said. “I didn’t listen to that interview, but I don’t think he said anything bad about us. I don’t think he has anything bad to say about us. I think we revitalized his career.

“Now he has a chance of doing something in MMA he wants to do. From what I heard, he got an unbelievable offer and that should be announced pretty soon.”
