Rock M Pick ‘Em: Week 8

Mizzou is on their bye week. College Gameday heads Salt Lake for Houston at Utah. Ole Miss at Texas highlight the SEC Saturday slate. Let’s pick ‘em for Week 8 of the College Football season. (Odds provided by FanDuel Sportsbook)

No. 18 LSU Tigers (-6.5) at Auburn Tigers (11:00 a.m. CST on ABC)

Sammy Stava: LSU hasn’t lived up to expectations at this point, but they’re still a better team on paper than Auburn. Lane Kiffin finds a way to get it done on the road. 31-23, LSU.

Matthew Gustafson: Auburn is coming off not only the first major victory of the Alex Golesh era, but also its biggest win in years. Now it faces an LSU squad that still has plenty of talent despite experiencing some bumps in the road and will be determined to keep its playoff hopes alive heading into a matchup with Alabama. Give me the Bayou Bengals as Auburn becomes the next SEC big win hangover victim, 34-24.

Josh Matejka: Props to Auburn, man. If I’d had picked an upset game for Georgia at home this season, it certainly wouldn’t have been Alex Golesh’s Tigers. They haven’t been great in his first season, but does that really matter when you waltz into No. 1’s house and land a knockout punch? That’s a great building block for Golesh moving forward…

But does it translate to another big win? I’m not so sure. LSU is on the razor’s edge of CFP contention, and while a 3-loss team may make it in, the Tigers wouldn’t have a good-looking resume if they drop one to the Tigers. I think it’ll be a fun one, but LSU ultimately comes away victorious. 33-24.

Jaden Lewis: Can Auburn do it again? Beating Georgia is always a major accomplishment, and now Auburn gets LSU at home. Meanwhile, LSU hasn’t won on the road yet under Lane Kiffin. Give me Auburn, 23-16.

No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers at South Carolina Gamecocks (-2.5) (2:30 p.m. CST on ESPN)

Sammy Stava: Strange to see South Carolina as a favorite, even though this feels like a trap game for the Vols after an emotional win over Bama. but Tennessee has enough talent on their roster to take care of business and get it done on the road. 28-24, Volunteers.

Matthew Gustafson: Speaking of big wins, how about Tennessee stealing Alabama’s spotlight by dismantling the Tide in Knoxville? That means, of course, there’s the potential for a letdown. But there’s a key difference between Auburn and UT: the Vols are for real, and I think they’re CFP-bound. Tennessee wins, 27-24.

Josh Matejka: This is a game that I don’t feel good about picking. Tennessee obviously looks great right now, and they might be the most consistent team in the SEC. But South Carolina also smacked Florida around a few weeks ago, and for all their inconsistencies, the Gators are clearly still a team to be reckoned with.

If I’m forced to choose, I’ll take the Vols 24-17. But I don’t feel great about it.

Jaden Lewis: Can Auburn do it again? Beating Georgia is always a major accomplishment, and now Auburn gets LSU at home. Meanwhile, LSU hasn’t won on the road yet under Lane Kiffin. Give me Auburn, 23-16.

Texas A&M Aggies at No. 13 Alabama Crimson Tide (-13.5) (2:30 p.m. CST on ABC)

Sammy Stava: Alabama at home in a must-win game coming off a loss. Easy pick here. 37-21, Tide.

Matthew Gustafson: Let’s see here… Alabama is going to be desperate heading into this one, the Aggies’ season is already over, and the game is being played in Tuscaloosa. Yeah, this one’s not too difficult to pick. The Tide let their frustration out during a 41-17 win.

Josh Matejka: The Aggies suck and Alabama needs to get right. Mike Elko’s bad year only gets worse in Tuscaloosa, as the Tide roll to a 38-13 win.

Jaden Lewis: Alabama is going to be looking to bounce back after losing to Tennessee. The Crimson Tide certainly have the advantage at QB. Alabama 41-13.

No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels at No. 19 Texas Longhorns (-3.5) (6:30 p.m. CST on ABC)

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - OCTOBER 17: Trinidad Chambliss #6 of the Mississippi Rebels carries the ball against the Missouri Tigers at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on October 17, 2026 in Oxford, Mississippi. (Photo by Justin Ford/Getty Images) Getty Images

Sammy Stava: Ole Miss looks like the best team in the SEC after their 31-3 win over Mizzou. The Longhorns are going to be desperate with their playoff hopes on the line, but Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebels get it done. 24-20 Ole Miss.

Matthew Gustafson: Texas has dropped heartbreakers in back-to-back weeks, and the Longhorns will be motivated to avoid any further embarrassment. But I think Ole Miss will learn from its own embarrassment earlier this year in Gainesville, and they’ve got the better quarterback. That should make a big impact in what I expect to be a close game. I’ll take the Rebels 27-24, just because it seems so improbable it would happen to Texas for a third straight week that it practically becomes probable again.

Josh Matejka: After watching Ole Miss dismantle Missouri last weekend, I can’t fathom how they couldn’t get past Florida. They look really, really, really good, especially when Kewan Lacy is in the backfield. Texas is reeling, and there’s already precedent for them losing at home to a much worse team. I think Pete Golding gets the Rebels ready and Steve Sarkisian’s tenure in Austin starts rolling seriously downhill. 31-21, Ole Miss.

Jaden Lewis: A fun quarterback matchup in Austin between Trinidad Chambliss and Arch Manning. In my opinion, Chambliss has been the most impressive of the two and I think that’s the difference in this game, Mississippi 38-31.

No. 14 Houston Cougars at No. 10 Utah Utes (-6.5) (9:15 p.m. CST on ESPN)

Sammy Stava: Should be a fun one late night as Rice-Eccles Stadium is one of the best atmospheres in College Football. Advantage Utah. Devon Dampier leads the Utes to a 35-30 win.

Matthew Gustafson: Utah will have the energy of a nationally televised night game and the hype that College GameDay provides on its side. Both of these teams just barely survived tough battles last week, and this should be a fun back-and-forth matchup. But I think the Utes have a little more offensive firepower on their side, and that will be enough (alongside the energy of the home crowd) to outlast the Cougars. Give me Utah, 35-31.

Josh Matejka: I really like Utah, and I’d love to see them get into the CFP this season. They’ve got home field advantage on their side, and a really good offense. But I just have a feeling about this one. It’s very evenly matched by SP+ standards, even if Houston’s defense can be a bit shaky. I think the Cougars sneak a win here and throw some more chaos into the CFP conversation, 34-31.

Jaden Lewis: Like BYU, Utah is such a tough place to play in my opinion. Devon Dampier is an exciting player, and I think Utah wins this one, 28-22.
