76ers fans brutally boo halftime performer for underwhelming act at LeBron James' first home game

LeBron James got the full Philadelphia experience in his 'home' debut for the 76ers on Thursday night.

Not only did his new fans shower the Sixers with boos as they fell behind the Cleveland Cavaliers by 27 points in the second quarter, but the jeers continued after the horn as spectators turned on the halftime entertainment.

Known as 'Light Man,' the performer wore an LED costume while balancing glowing objects on his hands as a small array of luminous drones floated around him.

Perhaps it was the routine, or maybe it was the 24-point halftime deficit, but the locals did not hide their displeasure.

'When the Sixers are down 24, this talented, creative gentleman got booed for a big portion of his act,' ESPN's Mike Breen said over highlights of the halftime show.

'They're just not in a frame of mind,' color commentator Richard Jefferson responded.

'He'll get another chance,' Breen said, adding: 'Hopefully.'

Fans online were equally dismissive.

'Yeah, no patience for a guy with drones spinning a box when they're down 29,' one Sixers fan later wrote on X before dropping the name of a more popular halftime performer. 'He's no Red Panda.'

Others remarked on Philadelphians' commitment to booing.

'Philly booing the Sixers AND the halftime performer in the same night is wild,' one commenter noted on X. 'You came to watch the show and you booed the whole show.'

But things would improve in the second half as the Cavs went cold from the perimeter while the Sixers frontcourt of James, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid began dominating the paint.

In the end, Philadelphia came away with 114-106 win to improve to 2-0 in the James era.

Obviously, Light Man is in some good company when it comes to being booed by Philadelphians. Most famously, the city booed Santa Claus during an Eagles game at Franklin Field in 1968.

It’s unclear if he was booing, but 76ers legend Allen Iverson was on hand Thursday and appeared to be sitting just a few seats down from James’ young daughter, Zhuri.

James, meanwhile, was scratched from Saturday's game against Milwaukee to rest up ahead of Sunday's matchup with the visiting Detroit Pistons.
