College football rankings see Ohio State tumble in US LBM Coaches Poll Top 25

Take a good look at the first US LBM Coaches Poll of November. In a week, it’s going to look very different, as will the rankings from the playoff committee set to debut later this week. First things first though – here are the highlights from this week’s voting by the coaches.

Miami (Fla.) retains the No. 1 spot for another week, though the Hurricanes got all they wanted on the road at North Carolina. Miami received 68 of 73 first-place votes on the eve of their much-anticipated visit to Notre Dame. Georgia climbs a notch to No. 2 after a wire-to-wire win against archrival Florida. The Bulldogs claim four of the remaining five first-place nods. Indiana moves up to No. 3 after another overtime escape, this time against Minnesota. Utah and UCLA, the only other unbeaten teams, round out the top five. It is the first top-five appearance for the Bruins since Oct. 22, 2001.

No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 7 Kentucky hold steady, with the Wildcats receiving the final No. 1 vote to improve their ranking highest since USA TODAY Sports took over administering the poll in 1991. No. 8 Brigham Young and No. 9 Alabama each move up a spot. Ohio State topples from the No. 2 position but stays in the top 10 after losing at No. 17 Southern California.

A couple of upset victims stay in the top 25, but Northwestern and SMU fall to No. 23 and 24 respectively. The lone newcomer to the poll this week is No. 25 New Mexico, making its first lone appearance in the coaches poll on Dec. 1, 1997.

Florida is the week’s only dropout.
