Liverpool's Premier League clash against Arsenal has divided opinion with Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright among the pundits to disagree. Andoni Iraola's side come into the huge clash in good form after beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup while the Gunners were dumped out by Fleetwood Town 24 hours earlier.
Prior to beating Xabi Alonso's side, Liverpool claimed wins over Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth with defeat to Manchester City the only blemish. Arsenal are aiming to leapfrog Enzo Maresca's side at the summit after they lost to the Seagulls on Saturday.
Having never lost to a Mikel Arteta team in the league at Anfield, Liverpool will fancy their chances to pick up a positive result and potentially go within three points of their opponents. Despite the home advantage, the reigning champions are favourites but that is not the result most are expecting.
With all of that being said, The Liverpool Echo have rounded up all the pundit predictions for the game which includes Iraola being told of the two Liverpool players that could be key.
Liverpool could issue a statement of intent with victory over Arsenal and Jamie Carragher has already asked about their potential involvement in the Premier League title race. He later provided a loose answer to that question with his score prediction.
He first wrote for The Telegraph: "Here is a question I did not think I would be asking at any stage this season: will Liverpool win the Premier League?
Jamie Carragher has predicted Liverpool to beat Arsenal
"It would be premature to describe this Sunday's Anfield fixture as a title duel. Arsenal are better equipped to defend their crown, while Liverpool are a work in progress.
"Whatever the outcome this weekend, Arsenal will leave Merseyside as the overwhelming favourites to claim back-to-back titles. They have a six-point lead over Liverpool. Should that extend to nine, Andoni Iraola's primary objective coming into this season will remain unchanged; qualifying for the Champions League will represent a promising start to his reign."
On the latest episode of Stick to Football, he said: "I actually do think 1-1 but I'm too bias. I'll go 2-1, Liverpool."
Arsenal legend Ian Wright will be part of Sky Sports' coverage of the match and is going with the opposite of Carragher's prediction after initially suggesting a draw.
Wright said: "I think we beat them. This is the game that kind of defines Liverpool if they are coming back. You're looking at [Alexis] Mac Allister, even [Cody] Gakpo [to step up]... but deep down, I really think we beat them. 2-1 Arsenal."
Roy Keane was the pundit who prompted Wright to change his prediction, though that didn't mean the former Manchester United midfielder was backing an Arsenal victory.
He said: "I'm thinking draw, Liverpool did well against City until the red card, 1-1?" That remains Liverpool's sole defeat of the campaign thus far, which underlines the task facing Arteta and his squad.
Like Ian Wright, Gary Neville will also be covering the fixture on television, but his prediction and demeanour suggests he may not be relishing the encounter.
Gary Neville believes Arsenal will "play for a point" at Anfield
He jokingly stated on Stick to Football: "Arsenal will play for a point." The Gunners have previously faced criticism for not going all out for wins away at the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
In contrast to that, Alan Shearer specifically predicted a score draw given Liverpool's excellent recent form. Speaking to Betfair, he said: "I'm going to go for a score draw.
"I just think with the form that Liverpool are in, I know Arsenal got dumped out of the cup in the week, but it was a very different team, so it'll be a different mentality going into it.
"Arsenal have to bounce back and it's going to be a really tough game and it's a tough one to call because Liverpool have got a lot going for them at the moment. I think both teams will take a draw, and I don't think it'd be a bad result for either team."
With Arsenal the strongest side in the division and Liverpool increasingly resolute defensively, Chris Sutton is anticipating a cagey, low-scoring encounter. Writing in his BBC Sport predictions column, he said: Liverpool proved me wrong against Brighton last week, because they didn't just win, they played well too.
"After conceding so many goals last season, you can see they have really tightened things up. Arsenal don't give much away either, so this is going to be very close. Alexander Isak is scoring goals again for the Reds, and they will be full of confidence coming into this game.
"You could make a case for it ending up a repeat of the result we saw at the end of last season, when Dominik Szoboszlai's brilliant free-kick meant Liverpool edged a 1-0 win. I do think we will see the same scoreline, just with a different winner."
