Pink in the Rink: Florida Panthers new Jersey coming Monday
Pink in the Rink: Florida Panthers new Jersey coming Monday

The Panthers are scheduled to wear the new pink-dominated threads — with a hue that reminds of pink lemonade or Starburst candies instead of a Vice-themed hot pink — in 10 home games this season.

Florida will wear them twice this week starting Monday against the Detroit Red Wings and again on Wednesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Other games will be: Nov. 28 (Tampa Bay), Dec. 10 (Calgary), Dec. 26 (TBL), Jan. 2 (Montreal), Jan. 16 (Vegas), Feb. 13 (Dallas), March 6 (Toronto) and March 27 (Philadelphia).

Although teams, including the Panthers, have worn special pink jerseys in warmups to commemorate cancer awareness in the past, Monday will be the first time this color jersey will appear in a game.

The team has been hinting at the new color scheme although it will not officially be released until Monday morning.

Although all NHL teams will release their new Hometown Remix look at 10 a.m. on Monday, the Panthers will do so at 9:54 — a nod to Broward County’s area code.

Rumors of a pink jersey first surfaced last season when a list of primary new colors for NHL teams at Fanatics were leaked.

Florida’s color was pink.

That jersey showed the Panthers were not going to join the Miami Heat, Miami Marlins, and FIU with a Miami Vice look which, coincidentally, was the color scheme for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game held in Sunrise.

There was also a thought the Panthers were going with a pink and black scheme that Inter Miami has made so popular.

Instead, what we have, is something pretty original.

The body of the jersey is a bright pink with accent colors of peach, bright yellow, gold, and blue.

There are also different shades of pink.

With the blue on the top and bottom of the jersey, the team may continue to wear its blue pants and helmets with this.

Some teams, like the Tampa Bay Lightning, have already been seen breaking in new pants and gloves during practice to gear up for the Hometown Remix release.

Expect Florida’s goalies, at least, to have new pads to match the new color scheme perhaps at today’s morning skate in Fort Lauderdale.

As for the logo on the new jersey, it is a modern take on the team’s original stick-and-palm secondary logo.

That logo has not only been worn on the team’s shoulder during much of the franchise’s existence, but also as the primary logo of the popular bright blue Reverse Retro 2.0 from the 2022-23 season.

The new logo is without the small triangles which made up the sunburst of the original; the sun also appears to be rising up out of the water like a sunrise.

On the sleeves is the Panthers’ shield logo which was introduced in 2016 — only without the words ‘Florida’ or ‘Panthers.’

The stoic panther is in varying shades of gold, perhaps to represent the sunshine.

‘South Florida’ is written on the inside of the tail and the numbers are expected to be futuristic in style, reminding of the ESPN font.

Despite fan demand, the Panthers have not had an alternate jersey since the team rebrand in 2016.

There have been league-wide alternates such as the first two Reverse Retros and faux retro Winter Classic jersey which was only worn in Miami and sparingly afterward.

This, too, is expected to be a one-year jersey.
