Carlos Alcaraz will have a busy end to his rollercoaster 2026 season, with the Spaniard expected to play at the Davis Cup Finals.

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz has accepted a wildcard for Vienna, which he will take on before playing at the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals. It continues a busy period for the Spanish superstar, who missed over four months of the season because of a wrist injury.

Alcaraz missed the Davis Cup qualifiers as Spain beat Chile 4-0 to make the final eight, but he is set to return for his nation at next month’s finals. His upcoming appearance – alongside Rafael Jodar, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez – was reported by Marca earlier this month, with the Spanish publication now revealing the fifth and final member of the team.

Give us one bold prediction for the final months of the 2026 tennis season!

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to join Carlos Alcaraz in Spain’s Davis Cup Finals team

Marca has reported that Davidovich Fokina was among a handful of players in contention for the final spot, alongside Jaume Munar and Dani Merida. But the recently crowned ATP Masters 1000 champion has now reportedly been chosen by Ferrer to join Alcaraz and Co. in Bologna from November 23-29.

Davidovich Fokina won the Shanghai Masters, defeating Jodar in an entertaining all-Spanish final. Shortly before, he claimed his second title of the season at Chengdu, having previously triumphed at Mallorca in a superb season for the 27-year-old.

Incidentally, rising star Merida has been training with Alcaraz as the latter prepares for his return to the ATP Tour. But they won’t be linking up at the Davis Cup Finals this time around. Hugely impressively, the 22-year-old is currently ranked as the best returner in men’s tennis, just ahead of Alcaraz in second. And showing how strong Spanish tennis is right now, Jodar is joint-third with Italian icon Jannik Sinner.

Why Spain have added motivation to win the Davis Cup

It is certainly among the strongest Spain teams in recent memory, and undoubtedly one of the strongest teams at this year’s Davis Cup Finals, at least on paper. Alcaraz is third in the ATP rankings, with Jodar and Davidovich Fokina both inside the top 15 after their final in Shanghai. The former has risen to 11th, with the latter climbing to 13th, sitting either side of Serbian legend Novak Djokovic.

And they will be accompanied by doubles specialists Granollers and Martinez, who should complement the singles stars well. But the entire team has added motivation to perform in Bologna, with captain David Ferrer bowing out of the role after the tournament. Ferrer will be replaced by Marc Lopez, who has agreed to a two-year deal to become Spain’s new Davis Cup captain.

Spain should be full of confidence given their star-studded roster and their commanding qualifying win over Chile. But they will be taking nothing for granted in their quarterfinal clash against Austria, who beat Japan 3-2 to make the final eight. The winner of the meeting will then take on either Great Britain or Germany in the semifinals.
