Ravens quarterback Joe Fagnano's wife's reaction in stadium during Jaguars game turns heads
Joe Fagnano #12 of the Baltimore Ravens throws a pass

Joe Fagnano's wife, Lydia, caught the attention of fans during the Baltimore Ravens' clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars, stealing the spotlight as she watched from the stands.

Fagnano made the first start of his NFL career against Jacksonville on Thursday Night Football in Week 9. The undrafted rookie from UConn was thrust into the starting role after the Ravens lost three consecutive games and their top two quarterbacks during October.

He had completed just 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and an interception in Sunday's defeat to the Buffalo Bills, but made a brighter start against the Jaguars completing four of his first five attempts. Although the Jaguars quickly took the lead, Fagnano had plenty of support in the stands from his wife.

Lydia was shown on camera several times during the first half, including after her husband picked up a first down. Her enthusiastic reactions throughout the game quickly caught the attention of viewers, with the footage gaining traction on social media.

Fagnano had been preparing for the opportunity with help from his wife. During the NFL on Prime broadcast, it was revealed that she regularly went through plays with him at home and tested his knowledge of different calls to ensure he was ready if the opportunity arose.

“My wife and I go through walkthroughs in the living room,” Fagnano told reporters earlier this week. “She reads the plays and everything. She probably knows the playbook just as well as we do at this point.

“I've always been doing things to prepare. Like I said, it's just a little more physical work out on the field now.”

The couple first met in high school and married earlier this year. While Fagnano played college football at Maine and UConn, Lydia competed in cross country at D’Youville University in Buffalo.

Fagnano was thrust into the starting role after the Ravens lost their top two quarterbacks to injuries. Baltimore were also without starting cornerback Nate Wiggins, who had been listed as ill earlier in the week, while star safety Kyle Hamilton left the game with a hip injury.

With their quarterback options limited, the Ravens were willing to try anything to keep the game against Jacksonville competitive. That included taking several direct snaps to running back Derrick Henry.

However, the Jaguars had little trouble beating Fagnano and the Ravens, claiming a 33-10 victory. With their top two quarterbacks on injured reserve and Fagnano also dealing with an ankle issue, Baltimore are now waiting for Jacoby Brissett to arrive as they look to keep their season on track.

“Tough situation for our guys. But I just told them, there’s no excuses,” Baltimore coach Jesse Minter said. “There’s no, ‘Whatever, we don’t have this guy, we don’t have that guy.’”

The defeat also marked an unwanted franchise first, with the Ravens losing three consecutive games by at least 20 points for the first time in their history. They suffered heavy defeats to Seattle (35-6) and Kansas City (34-14) in successive weeks in 2015, but bounced back to win their next game.
