Boxing’s youngest world champion wants Gervonta Davis fight: “Let’s get it”

Gervonta Davis has spent 2026 on the sidelines but the Baltimore power-puncher is expected to make his comeback in early 2027 and boxing’s youngest male world champion may well be waiting for him.

Davis is winless since June 2024, with his only outing since being a draw against Lamont Roach Jr back in March 2025. Since then, serious legal issues have seen ‘Tank’ undergo an extended period of inactivity, resulting in him being stripped of his WBA lightweight title.

Davis has since been named as the WBA ‘champion-in-recess’, a position which will permit the 31-year-old to challenge newly-crowned WBA 135lb titleholder Floyd Schofield for his former belt upon his return to the sport, if he wishes to do so.

Whilst Schofield appears to be the most obvious target for Davis next year, 22-year-old WBO lightweight champion Abdullah Mason told the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer that he would be willing to take on the undefeated superstar.

“For sure, it is something that I am definitely open to and definitely looking forward to, if he is still in the sport, but I like to keep things in an aspect of what is there. If that comes in front of me, I have got to be ready for that, for sure.

“If another fight comes in front of me, then I have got to be ready for it. So, if he comes back and gets active then yeah, for sure, let’s get it.

“I feel like it would be great and it would be big.”

As Mason insinuates, the Ohio southpaw is taking one fight at a time at present and it seems as though his first attempted defence of the WBO title may take place on the Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua undercard in December, where he has been touted for a clash with Joe Cordina.
